How to choose a computer mouse
A mouse sits in your hand for 6–10 hours a day, so shape and weight matter more than the DPI figure on the box.
- Sensor and DPI. Office work needs 1000–1600 DPI; gamers mostly play at 400–1600 DPI and tune sensitivity in-game. Polling rate matters more: 1000 Hz is standard, 8000 Hz is esports level.
- Connection. Wired USB is the simplest; a 2.4 GHz receiver is just as fast, even for gaming. Bluetooth needs no receiver and suits a laptop; a dual-mode mouse switches between three devices at a press.
- Weight and shape. A 50–65 g gaming mouse moves fast (Logitech Pro X Superlight is 63 g); a 100–140 g office mouse is steadier. Pick the size by your hand; see below.
- Ergonomics. A vertical mouse eases wrist pain by holding the hand at 57–90°, like a handshake; a trackball does not move the wrist at all. A silent-click model suits an open-plan office.
- Buttons and left or right hand. An office needs 3–5 buttons; MMO games use 12 side buttons. Ergonomic mice are mostly right-handed; a left-hander wants a symmetrical model.

Brands
Logitech covers everything: MX Master is the office benchmark, Superlight the esports standard. Razer is the gamers' brand — Viper and DeathAdder are pro favourites. Pulsar and HyperX build ultralight tournament mice, Corsair and MSI fast gaming gear. Dell and Lenovo offer business mice with Bluetooth and silent clicks, Fellowes and R-Go ergonomic ones. Trust, Xiaomi, Natec and Gembird are the budget end.
Gaming mouse or office mouse
A gaming mouse has a precise optical sensor, 1 ms latency, a light body and hard-wearing switches. An office mouse needs a comfortable shape, a quiet click, multi-device support and a battery that lasts months — Logitech MX Master 4 and Dell MS900 charge over USB-C. If your wrist hurts after 8 hours at a computer, choose a vertical mouse and give it a week. A mouse fits a parcel locker — Omniva, DPD or Venipak deliver it in 1–2 working days.

Match the mouse with a mouse pad and a keyboard, and add a laptop stand for a notebook. Gamers should browse the gaming section; the full selection is under peripherals.
Frequently asked questions
How many DPI do I need for gaming? Most pro players use 400–1600 DPI and set sensitivity in-game. A high DPI on the box does not make a mouse better — sensor accuracy and polling rate do.
Wired or wireless mouse? 2.4 GHz mice are as fast as wired ones and run 70–100 hours per charge. Wired is cheaper and never needs charging.
Does a vertical mouse help with wrist pain? Yes — the hand rests in a natural position and the forearm muscles strain less. Getting used to it takes a few days to a week.
Are there mice for left-handers? Yes: symmetrical gaming mice (Logitech Superlight, Razer Viper, Pulsar X2) suit either hand, and the R-Go HE Break is built specifically for the left hand.
How do I pick a mouse for my hand size? Measure from wrist crease to middle fingertip: under 17 cm, choose a small or mini model; 17–19 cm, medium; over 19 cm, large (Logitech M650 L, MX Master).
