Lighting that fits the room

Good lighting has three layers: ambient light on the ceiling, task light at the desk or reading chair, and soft accent light for mood. This department covers all three.

• Light bulbs — E14, E27 and GU10 caps, warm 2700 K or neutral 4000 K, dimmable and smart models.
• Luminaires — desk, floor and ceiling fixtures plus monitor lights for screen work.
• Decorative lighting — LED strips, Nanoleaf panels and Hue Play mood lights.
• Flashlights and headlamps — Nitecore and simple household models for the car, basement and trail.

How much light a room needs

Rule of thumb: about 150 lumens per square metre in a living room, 250–300 lm/m² in a kitchen or at a desk, 100 lm/m² in a bedroom. A 15 m² living room therefore needs roughly 2000–2500 lumens in total, split between a ceiling fixture and a couple of smaller lights.

Smart lighting

Smart bulbs and strips can be tied into scenes with a smart home hub: a morning wake-up light, a warm evening mode, or a presence simulation while you are away.

FAQ

Lumens or watts? Watts measure electricity use, lumens measure actual light. A 10 W LED gives about as much light as an old 75 W incandescent bulb.

Which colour temperature? 2700–3000 K is homely and warm, 4000 K is neutral task light, 6500 K is cool and energising.
