How to choose a mouse pad
A mouse pad is the cheapest way to make a mouse more precise and a desk quieter: the sensor reads a uniform surface better than a lacquered tabletop, and your hand tires less. Choose a pad on five points.
- Size. S (200×250 mm) fits beside a laptop, M (350×250 mm) is the office standard, L and XL (450×400 mm and up) suit a low-DPI gamer. A 900×400 mm desk mat also covers the keyboard.
- Surface: speed or control. Smooth, dense cloth (speed) lets the mouse glide fast — good in shooters; rougher cloth (control) brakes and helps you stop the cursor precisely. Glass and hard pads are the fastest, but louder.
- Thickness and base. 2–3 mm is standard, 4–5 mm softens wrist pressure. A non-slip rubber base and stitched edges keep the pad in place.
- Wrist rest. A gel or foam rest lifts the wrist and reduces pressure — recommended for a long office day; it gets in a gamer's way.
- Lighting. An RGB edge is pure aesthetics: it syncs with the rest of the desk through software, but needs a USB cable. Filter by surface and lighting on the left.

Razer is the esports favourite: Gigantus, Goliathus, Strider and Atlas cover every surface type plus Chroma lighting. Logitech offers the quiet Desk Mat Studio and the unique PowerPlay charging pad. HyperX and Corsair make dense-cloth gaming pads that last for years. Trust and Genesis are the budget gamer's pick, and Gembird gives you RGB and XL format for a couple of tens of euros. Fellowes is the ergonomics specialist — office pads with wrist rests and antibacterial coatings.
Care and delivery
Wash a cloth pad by hand in lukewarm water with mild soap, and dry it flat — not on a radiator, as the rubber loses its shape. It is a small parcel: it reaches an Omniva, DPD or Venipak parcel locker in 1–2 working days.

Frequently asked questions
Does an expensive pad make the mouse more accurate? Not directly — accuracy comes from the mouse sensor. A uniform surface does let the sensor track steadily, so the feel improves.
Speed or control? At low DPI (400–800) with big sweeping movements, pick speed. At high DPI or for graphics work, a control surface gives better stopping precision.
How big a pad for gaming? 450×400 mm covers most players' movements; a 900×400 mm desk mat is the most comfortable because keyboard and mouse sit on one plane.
Does an RGB pad need software? The effects work without it, but syncing with keyboard and mouse happens in the maker's app, such as Razer Synapse.
Does a gaming mouse work on a glass pad? Yes, modern optical sensors read frosted glass without trouble; an older or cheap sensor may jitter.
