How to choose an egg cooker
An egg cooker does one job, but does it the same way every time: the water evaporates, the steam cooks the egg and the unit switches itself off. There are few things to decide, but they matter.
- Egg count. 3 eggs is breakfast for one or a couple of soft-boiled eggs for two; 7 eggs covers a family or a sandwich spread.
- Setting the doneness. On a basic model you measure the water with the cup: more water, harder egg. A model with electronic control (Caso E3) lets you pick the doneness with a button and beeps when the eggs are ready.
- Power. 200–400 W is normal for this appliance — the 210 W Caso E3 cooks three eggs in roughly 7–10 minutes.
- Lid and material. A steel lid (Tristar EK-3076) lasts longer and does not discolour; a clear plastic lid shows what is going on inside.
- Cleaning. Limescale builds up on the heating plate — wipe it with diluted vinegar now and then.

Frequently asked questions
Do eggs crack in an egg cooker? Rarely, if you pierce the blunt end of the shell with the pin in the base of the measuring cup before cooking — it lets the air out and the shell stays whole.
How much water does it use? Just one measuring cup, a couple of tablespoons. That is why an egg cooker is faster and more economical than a saucepan.
Why do the eggs come out at different doneness? Usually because of egg size and starting temperature: a size L egg from the fridge needs more water than a room-temperature size M.
