A case covers what glass does not

The Apple Watch screen rounds off at the edge, and the edge is what meets the door handle. Flat glass covers the centre, while a case takes the hit on the corner of the body — which is why they are often bought together, or why people pick a case with glass already built in.

Size follows the case

Cases are made for the case size: 40, 41, 45 or 49 mm (Ultra). Find yours in the Watch app or on the case back — another size simply will not click into place.

Alongside

Standalone screen protection is under Apple Watch protectors, bands are here and chargers under smartwatch chargers. The watches themselves are on the Apple Watch page.

Frequently asked questions

Does a case get in the way of changing the band? No: the case covers the sides of the body and leaves the band slot free.

Do I still need glass on top of a case? Not if the case has glass built in. With an open bumper, adding a protector makes sense.

Does a case block charging? No, the charging area on the back stays clear.

Will a 45 mm case fit Ultra? No. The Ultra body is 49 mm and needs its own size.
