65 inches for a larger living room

From a 20 m² room and a three-metre viewing distance, 65 inches is the natural choice. This is also where panel type and brightness start to drive price more than the brand does.

• Contrast. Mini LED and OLED separate themselves from plain LED instantly in a dark room: black stays black instead of grey.
• Viewing angles. An IPS-type panel keeps colour for whoever sits at the end of the sofa; VA gives deeper black but washes out off-axis.
• Gaming. 120 Hz, VRR and ALLM are standard in this class; check that at least two HDMI ports support them.
• Mounting. VESA 400 × 400 or 600 × 400 and up to 36 kg: a mount for a 65-inch TV should be in the 45 kg class, with screws into a load-bearing wall rather than plasterboard.
