Why an adapter
Desktop PCs often have neither Wi-Fi nor Bluetooth. A USB adapter adds them in a minute — plug it into a free USB port and install a driver if needed. With a Bluetooth adapter you can connect wireless headphones, keyboards, mice and gamepads to the computer.
What to look for
- Bands — a dual-band (2.4 + 5 GHz) adapter is faster and less affected by congestion than 2.4 GHz only.
- Antenna — an external antenna picks up the signal better when the router is in another room.
- Bluetooth version — 5.0 and newer give better range and lower power draw.
FAQ
Can a Bluetooth audio adapter make ordinary speakers wireless? Yes: the adapter plugs into the speaker's 3.5 mm input and the phone streams audio over Bluetooth.
