How to choose a webcam

A laptop's built-in camera is usually 720p and looks up at you from below. A separate webcam improves the picture more than any other call accessory. Choose it on five points.

Webcams in our range

The range is compact but covers everything from a budget call camera to a meeting-room system. HD and Full HD cameras are the home-office workhorses: the Logitech C270 (720p, 30 fps) is the cheapest way in, the Logitech Brio 100 (1080p) and the Dahua Full HD autofocus camera give a clear picture for a few tens of euros, and the Logitech C930e adds two microphones and a wide 90° view. QHD and 4K cameras — Trust Taxon QHD, Trust Teza 4K UHD and Logitech Brio 4K — suit streamers and content creators. Conference cameras are built for a whole room: the Logitech PTZ Pro 2 pans, tilts and zooms with motors, while the Logitech Sight is a 4K tabletop camera for the middle of the meeting table.

Brands

Logitech is the benchmark for webcams: the C series and Brio work with every calling service without fuss, and the Brio 4K adds HDR and Windows Hello face recognition. Trust offers QHD and 4K noticeably cheaper than the big names. Dahua comes from the surveillance world and brings autofocus and a light-sensitive sensor at a reasonable price.

Compatibility with Teams, Zoom and Meet

All our webcams are UVC-standard devices: plug into USB and Windows, macOS, ChromeOS or Linux recognises them without drivers. Teams, Zoom, Google Meet and OBS see the camera immediately. A webcam is a small parcel: it reaches an Omniva, DPD or Venipak parcel locker in 1–2 working days.

Good sound is half of a video call: see microphones and headphones. For the meeting room there are conference systems, a wider monitor makes a better camera perch, and if the laptop has no free port a USB hub helps. The full selection is in peripherals.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 4K webcam worth it for Teams? Teams and Zoom usually send no more than 1080p, so the other person will not see the difference. 4K pays off in recordings, streams and digital zoom.

Do I need a separate microphone? In a quiet room the camera's mic is enough. With children, an office or a street in the background, a headset or desk microphone gives much cleaner audio.

Autofocus or fixed focus? Fixed focus is cheaper and stays steady while you sit still. Autofocus earns its keep if you show objects to the camera or move around at the desk.

Does the camera work with a Mac? Yes — UVC cameras work in macOS without drivers. Just check you have a free USB-A port or a USB-C adapter.

What is the difference between a webcam and a conference camera? A webcam is made for one person on the edge of a monitor; a conference camera covers the whole room and frames the speaker automatically.
