How to choose body scales

Body scales are a simple device where one thing matters: whether the reading is comparable every morning. Everything else — Bluetooth, body fat, a glass platform — is a bonus worth having if you will actually use it.

Body scales in our range

Smart scales with body composition: iHealth Nexus Pro and HS2S (up to 8 users), Xiaomi Smart Scale S200 with Bluetooth, Cecotec Surface Precision 9400, 9450 and HealthySmart with a BMI readout, Adler AD 8186b with Bluetooth and AD 8165 with an analyser up to 225 kg, ETA Vital Body and Caso Body Energy. Digital scales without an app are the bulk of the shelf: Tefal Classic, Premiss in tempered glass and Origin with a wood effect, ETA Breeze, Lena and Vital Fitness, Cecotec Surface Precision Healthy, Adler, Camry, Mesko and Tristar. Mechanical scales from Adler and Mesko (130–150 kg) work without batteries. There are also baby scales Adler AD 8139 (20 kg) and Adler luggage scales at 40–50 kg.

Brands

Xiaomi Smart Scale is the best-known smart scale — a simple app and a good price. iHealth has a medical-device background and suits serious body-composition tracking. Tefal makes handsome, accurate glass scales, Cecotec Surface Precision covers both smart and ordinary models. ETA and Caso are Central European brands at a sensible price; Adler, Mesko and Camry are the budget end and the only ones with mechanical models.

How to weigh yourself properly

Weigh yourself in the morning after the bathroom and before breakfast, at the same time and under the same conditions. Put the scales on a hard, level floor — on carpet every scale reads wrong. For body composition, stand barefoot with dry feet; after training or a sauna the water reading is distorted. Scales fit a parcel locker — Omniva, DPD or Venipak deliver in 1–2 working days.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is body fat measurement? Bioimpedance gives an estimate within ±3–5% and depends on hydration. Fine for a trend, but do not draw conclusions from one reading.

Do smart scales work without a phone? Yes, they show your weight on the display without the app. Body-composition results and history usually appear only in the app.

Why do the scales show a different number every time? Most often the cause is a soft floor or moving the scales. Place them on a hard surface and step on only once the display shows zero.

Can I use body-composition scales with a pacemaker? No — the weak current can interfere with the device; use ordinary scales. In pregnancy the fat percentage is inaccurate, but the weight reading is fine.

How long do the batteries last? Usually 6–12 months. If the reading starts to jump, change the batteries first.
