Freestanding cooker or separate appliances
A freestanding cooker is one appliance: oven below, hob on top. It slots into the kitchen with no cabinetry work and moves house with you — ideal for a rental or a kitchen you have not remodelled. A separate hob and oven give more freedom (the oven can sit at eye level) but need fitted furniture and installation.
Which hob type to choose
- Gas. Instant heat and cheap energy where gas is connected. A live flame suits woks and fast frying.
- Ceramic. A flat glass surface that wipes clean; heats more slowly than induction.
- Induction. Fastest and most efficient: it heats the pan, not the surface. Needs pans and pots with a magnetic base.
Size and installation
Standard width is 50 or 60 cm — measure the gap before ordering. A gas cooker must be connected by a qualified fitter; an electric one needs its own power cable and breaker. Delivery is by courier (€24.90); an appliance this size does not fit a parcel locker.
Frequently asked questions
Can a gas cooker have an electric oven? Yes, it is the most common combination: gas burners on top, electric oven below — it bakes more evenly.
Does induction require new cookware? If a magnet does not stick to the pan base, yes. Most new pans are induction-ready; old aluminium ones are not.
