14-inch laptops

Why 14 inches is the default

A 14-inch body is the compromise that works for most people: the screen takes a document and two windows side by side, yet the machine still fits a backpack and an aircraft tray. It is the largest group on our shelf — 143 models.

• Weight. Most sit between 1.1 and 1.6 kg, typically 1.4 kg. The gap to a 16-inch machine is close to half a kilo, and you feel it every day.
• Battery. 48–75 Wh, typically 60 Wh: 6–9 hours of office work if the screen is not at full brightness.
• Memory. 16 GB is the norm here (65 models), 32 GB on 48. On some machines the memory is soldered and cannot be added later — check the model data.
• Storage. 512 GB is the most common (91 models), 1 TB on 31.
• Screen. Mostly IPS, with OLED on 28 models and a touchscreen on 31.

For work or for home

Windows 11 Pro is on 105 models: 14 inches is the standard size for a business laptop, with BitLocker, domain join and longer service on the ThinkPad and Dell Pro lines. For home and study the Home edition does the same job, and it is on 19 models.

If 14 inches is not the fit

More working surface and a numeric keypad come with 16-inch laptops; for the lightest bag see 13-inch laptops. The full range is on the laptops page, and a laptop bag plus a docking station usually go with it.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 14-inch screen too small for work? For a single document or code window it is enough. If you always need two windows side by side, add an external monitor and a dock at the desk and keep the laptop for travel.

How long does the battery really last? 60 Wh gives 6–9 hours of office work. Video editing and full brightness roughly halve that.

Can memory be added later? On some models yes, on many it is soldered. Buy as much as you will need in three years.
