A table hob is an extra burner for holidays, a summer kitchen or a rented flat. Induction heats in seconds; a cast-iron plate is cheaper and simpler.

How to choose a table hob
- Induction or hotplate. Induction is fast and efficient but needs magnetic pans; a cast-iron plate works with any pot.
- Number of zones. One zone adds capacity, two replace a cooker.
- Controls. Touch is easy to wipe, rotary knobs work with wet hands.
- Power. 2000 W per zone boils water quickly; on twin-zone models check the total.
