16-inch laptops

What the bigger body buys you

16 inches is today's large size: it takes a numeric keypad, a bigger battery and proper cooling. The same body has room for two drives and a strong GPU, which is why office machines, gaming models and workstations all sit here side by side.

• Weight. 1.6–2.8 kg, typically 1.85 kg. Not an all-day shoulder carry — plan a bag or backpack with a wide strap.
• Battery. 54–96 Wh, typically 75 Wh. There is more capacity than on a 14-inch machine, but the larger screen takes part of it straight back.
• Storage. 1 TB is now as common here as 512 GB (60 and 66 models) — a bigger body fits a longer M.2 card.
• Memory. 16 GB on 70 models, 32 GB on 34, 64 GB on 12.
• Screen. IPS on 59 models, OLED on 24; around ten carry fast 165 and 240 Hz panels — the gaming models.

Who 16 inches suits

Anyone whose laptop spends most of its life on a desk: spreadsheets, CAD, editing, two windows side by side. Windows 11 Pro is on 88 models, Home on 35, and three ship with Linux. If the machine travels in a bag every day, that half kilo argues for 14 inches instead.

Neighbouring sizes and accessories

Lighter for daily carry: 14-inch laptops. Larger still: 17- and 18-inch laptops. The full range is on the laptops page. For a 16-inch machine pick a backpack in the right size and a dock for the desk.

Frequently asked questions

Will a 16-inch laptop fit a 15-inch bag? Usually not. Current 16-inch machines have narrow bezels and some do slide into a 15.6 compartment, but measure the width and depth against the bag's internal size.

Does it always have a numeric keypad? No. The big body has room for one, but some makers give that space to wider speakers or a larger touchpad — check the photo and the specs.

Is 16 inches the best size for gaming? Most current gaming models are 16-inch, because cooling and the battery need the space. See gaming laptops separately.
