Laptop shoulder bags and briefcases

Who a shoulder bag suits

Shoulder bags and briefcases are the office choice: you reach the machine while seated, without taking anything off your back, and next to a suit they read better than a backpack. They also take papers that a backpack creases.

• Strap. Adjustable and padded is a must for a long walk; grab handles cover short hops.
• Dividers. A dedicated laptop pocket, an A4 document section, small pockets for charger and cables.
• Toploader. A top-opening bag is the fastest — at airport security the machine comes out in one move.
• Wheeled case. If a projector or stacks of paper travel with you, your back stays out of it entirely.
• Material. Polyester is lighter and shrugs off rain; faux leather looks more formal.

If a shoulder bag does not suit you

Walking or cycling daily, a backpack treats your back better. If you already own a bag, a sleeve is enough.
