Flask, mug, bottle or food jar
- A thermos flask (0.5–1 l) is a portable pot: unscrew the cap and pour into a cup. Made for hikes and long drives.
- A thermal mug is a single serving: you drink straight from the lid and it fits a car cup holder.
- A bottle keeps water cool at the gym; a straw lid is easier when your hands are busy.
- A food jar has a wide mouth so soup, porridge or stew fit and a spoon reaches the bottom.
How long the heat lasts
Double-walled vacuum steel holds hot drinks for 6–12 hours and cold ones for up to 24. Two things matter more than the brand: how full it is (a half-empty flask cools fast — the air inside carries heat away) and pre-heating (rinse with boiling water before filling, worth an extra hour).
Care
Wash after every use and dry the lid open — the seal traps moisture and starts to smell. Use a dishwasher only if the maker allows it; painted exteriors otherwise go dull.
Frequently asked questions
Can I put a fizzy drink in a flask? Not advisable: pressure builds up and the contents can spray when opened. Carbonation also degrades some seals.
Why does my drink cool faster than promised? Usually the flask is half full or was not pre-heated. Opening it often also cuts the time noticeably.
