How a carpet cleaner works
The machine sprays a water-and-detergent mix deep into the fibres, the brush loosens the dirt and strong suction pulls the dirty water straight back into a separate tank. Unlike an ordinary vacuum cleaner it removes old stains, not just dust.
What to look at
- Tank size. 0.4–1 l suits single stains; 1.7–2.2 l covers a whole sofa or a car interior.
- Suction. 9,000–17,000 Pa — the higher it is, the drier the fabric is left afterwards.
- Power supply. A corded unit runs without limits; a cordless one reaches the car and the stairs without an extension lead.
- Steam or warm water. Helps with greasy and set-in stains.
- Tools. A narrow brush for spots, a wide head for rugs, a dedicated tool for pet hair.
