What a sleeve is for
A sleeve is not a standalone bag: it has no strap and no pockets, and it protects the machine inside a backpack or shoulder bag. That is why it stays thin — a couple of millimetres, not another kilo and a half.
- Soft or hard. Neoprene absorbs knocks and stretches to size; a hard shell survives a bag being squeezed on a crowded train.
- Closure. A zip holds more securely, a magnetic flap is quicker — you open it at the desk in one move.
- Size matters more than on a bag. Buy strictly for your machine: in an oversized sleeve the laptop slides around.
- Outer pocket. Some models add a slot for the charger and mouse, which otherwise roam loose in the bag.
If a sleeve is not enough
With no bag yet, go straight for a backpack or a shoulder bag — both already have a laptop compartment.
