Why 27 inches is the default

27 inches is the size that takes two windows side by side without buying an ultrawide, and the size QHD was made for: text stays sharp even with scaling off.

• Resolution. QHD (2560 × 1440) is the sweet spot. Full HD is cheaper but pixels start to show at 27 inches; 4K adds sharpness yet demands a stronger graphics card.
• Panel. IPS is the default, Fast IPS for games, OLED for contrast — OLED monitors have their own list.
• Refresh rate. 60–100 Hz for work, 144 Hz and up for gaming: gaming monitors.
• Ergonomics. Check whether the stand offers height and pivot — a 27-inch screen in portrait is excellent for code and documents.

When 27 is not the one

For a smaller desk or a dual setup, 24 inches fits better. For more working area, 32 inches or an ultrawide. Full range: monitors.

On the desk

Two 27-inch screens want at least 70 cm of desk depth, and a monitor mount is close to mandatory — otherwise the stands swallow the whole surface.
