Choosing a smart lock

Installation. Many models replace only the cylinder or handle — no drilling required. Check your lock case type before buying.
Unlock methods. Fingerprint, PIN, app, NFC card and a normal key — the more fallbacks, the lower the risk of being locked out.
Power. Most run 6–12 months on batteries and warn you well before they run flat.
Compatibility. ZigBee and Matter models join a smart-home hub; Wi-Fi models work on their own.

Video doorbells

A video doorbell shows who is at the door on your phone, records motion and lets you talk to visitors while you are away. Check the IP rating (IP65 and above handles Estonian weather) and whether footage goes to a memory card or the cloud.

FAQ

Will I be locked out if the batteries die? No. Smart locks have emergency power over USB-C and usually a mechanical key as well.

Does a video doorbell need wiring? Battery models do not; a wired one gives constant power and uninterrupted recording.
