Galaxy Tab A or Galaxy Tab S: which case you need

Samsung tablets fall into two series. Galaxy Tab A (A9, A9+, A11, A11+) is an affordable family and school tablet. Galaxy Tab S (S9, S10, S11 and their FE, Plus and Ultra versions) supports the S Pen and suits note-taking and drawing. That shapes the tablet case too: for the A series a folio with a stand or a rugged case is enough, while for the S series a cover where the pen will not get lost is worth it.

Plus and non-Plus models are different sizes

The Galaxy Tab A9 and A11 are 8.7″ tablets, while the A9+ and A11+ are 11″, so a cover for one will not fit the other. The A9+ and A11+, however, are so alike that several cases (such as the Targus Click-In) are marked for both; the same goes for the A9 and A11. The S series follows the same rule: the S9, S9+ and S9 Ultra are three sizes, and the S9 FE+ is a separate model. For the Ultra some covers span several generations: the Tech-Protect SC Pen fits the S8, S9, S10 and S11 Ultra.

How to find your exact Galaxy Tab model

Open Settings → About tablet: it shows the model name and a model number starting with SM. Pick that model in the filter on the left to see only the cases made for your tablet.

Folio, pen holder, kids’ and field cases

Frequently asked questions

Does a Galaxy Tab A9 case fit the Tab A9+? No. The A9 is an 8.7″ tablet and the A9+ an 11″ one, so their dimensions are completely different.

Does an A9+ case also fit the A11+? Many covers are marked for both. If the description names only one model, choose the one that matches your tablet.

Where does the S Pen go when the tablet is in a case? Cases with a pen holder, such as the Tech-Protect SC Pen, have a slot for it. With an ordinary cover, keep the pen separately.

How do I tell a Tab S9 from a Tab S9 FE? The FE model has the letters FE in its name. The two have different bodies and need different cases.
