How to choose a meat grinder
An electric meat grinder gives you mince whose composition and fat content you know,. When choosing, look beyond the watts — throughput, plates and attachments tell you more.
- Throughput in kg/min. A more honest figure than power: 1.7 kg/min (Tefal NE1088) covers a family's burgers, 2.3–2.5 kg/min (ETA, Caso FW, Bosch MFWS430B) suits batch cooking and sausage making, where meat goes through by the kilo.
- Power. The 2000–2500 W on the box is locked-motor power, a momentary peak on a tough piece; in normal use the machine draws 300–500 W. A compact 300–350 W unit copes with softer meat; sinewy cuts and large quantities need a stronger motor.
- Plates. Three plates (roughly 3, 5 and 8 mm) cover everything from pâté to coarse mince. Stainless-steel plates (Caso FW 2500) do not rust.
- Attachments. A sausage stuffer and kebbe cone come with most models (Mesko MS 4805, Bosch SmartPower MFW2510W), and reverse frees a jammed sinew.
- Cleaning. The screw and plates should come apart in one move; wash metal parts by hand and dry them at once.
Meat grinders in our range
The selection is compact but covers both ends: compact 300–350 W grinders — Adler AD 4808, Mesko MS 4805 with kebbe and sausage attachments, Mesko MS 4809 with three plates, Bosch SmartPower MFW2510W and the stainless-steel Tefal NE1088 (1.7 kg/min) — suit everyday mince. Powerful models for batches and sausages are the Gorenje MG1602W 1600 W, ETA 2200 W (2.3 kg/min), Caso FW 2000 and FW 2500 (2.5 kg/min, steel plates), plus the two-speed Bosch MFWS430B and MFWS607W.
Brands
Bosch is the most balanced choice: SmartPower for compact work and the MFWS series with 2.5 kg/min throughput. Caso FW 2000 and FW 2500 are the most powerful machines in the range, with steel plates and a metal body. ETA and Gorenje offer high throughput at a sensible price, and Tefal is compact and stainless. Mesko and Adler are the budget end — a full set of attachments for under fifty euros.

Frequently asked questions
Can it grind frozen meat? No — meat must be thawed, but fridge-cold.
Why does the meat jam? Sinews and skin wrap around the screw. Trim them first, cut the meat into 2–3 cm cubes and do not force the pusher — reverse clears the blockage.
What does 2000 W on the box mean? It is a momentary maximum, not continuous draw. To compare machines, look at throughput in kg/min.
Can the plates go in the dishwasher? Better not — plain-steel plates and the blade rust. Wash by hand, dry and wipe with a drop of oil.
