Mounts for 65-inch TVs

Load rating stops being a formality

65-inch TVs weigh 17–36 kg. Pick a mount rated for at least 45 kg and read the arm length: a 50 cm arm with a 30 kg TV creates leverage that a plasterboard plug will not hold.

• VESA. 400 × 400 is normal; larger Mini LED sets use 600 × 400. Read the TV's spec sheet rather than guessing.
• The wall. Concrete or load-bearing timber. On plasterboard only through the studs, and then fixed or tilting rather than a long arm.
• Two people. One hangs the plate, two lift the TV onto it — hoisting 30 kg at arm's length is exactly where panels get broken.
• Cable slack. At least 15 cm with a full-motion mount; an HDMI plug breaks before the cable stretches.

A stand instead of the wall

A floor stand on castors carries the same weight and needs no holes — a good answer in a rented flat, or when the TV has to change rooms.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 45 kg rating overkill for a 25 kg TV? No. The manufacturer's figure assumes a perfect installation; double headroom is the sensible norm.

Will the mount fit a parcel locker? Models in this class are usually too large and travel by courier.

How far does a full-motion arm extend? 40–60 cm fully out, 6–10 cm folded.
