Mounts for 50-inch TVs

Load rating and VESA

50-inch TVs weigh 8–21 kg — a twofold spread depending on whether it is a slim QLED or a chunky LED. Pick a mount rated for at least 25 kg and it will also serve the next TV.

• VESA. Usually 200 × 200 or 300 × 300. A universal plate covers both, but check that the bolt protrudes far enough from the chassis.
• Tilt. If the TV goes above a fireplace, tilt is mandatory — without it you watch a reflection rather than a picture.
• Arm length. A 40 cm arm pulls the screen away from the wall — handy in an open-plan room, but the screws must land in solid material.
• Cables. With a full-motion mount leave 10–15 cm of slack on HDMI and power, or the arm will tug at the connector.
