Magnetic switches with no contacts to wear out
In a Hall Effect switch the key does not press metal contacts together: a sensor measures the position of a magnet under the key. Because each press is read from the magnetic field, there are no contacts to wear the way they do in a conventional mechanical switch. The PBT double-shot keycaps have their legends moulded from a second layer of plastic, so the letters do not rub off and the surface does not turn shiny as quickly as ABS plastic.
