CyberPower OR1000ERM1U UPS 1000 VA / 600 W, 1U rackmount, line-interactive

The CyberPower OR1000ERM1U is a Smart App series UPS for server racks: its chassis is just 44 mm high and takes up a single rack unit. With 1000 VA / 600 W of capacity and a line-interactive design with automatic voltage regulation (AVR), it keeps servers, network gear and recorders running through a power cut.

  • Capacity: 1000 VA / 600 W
  • Topology: line-interactive, AVR, simulated sine wave output
  • Battery runtime: typically 3.5 min at full load, 14 min at half load
  • Interfaces: USB, optional SNMP/HTTP remote management, PowerPanel software
  • Form factor: 1U rackmount, 433 × 389 × 44 mm, LCD status display
  • Protection: overload, surge and spike protection, phone, DSL and network line protection, EMI/RFI filtering
  • Batteries: hot-swappable, typical recharge time 8 h

Description

Backup power that takes only one rack unit

At 44 mm high, the chassis fits into a single unit of a server cabinet, so the UPS does not steal space from servers, switches or storage. It measures 433 × 389 × 44 mm. The front panel has an LCD status display, so when you open the cabinet door you can see at a glance whether everything is fine without opening software on a computer. That way a problem is noticed even if alerts have not been set up.

AVR evens out voltage swings without draining the battery

A line-interactive UPS monitors the mains voltage all the time. When the voltage sags or rises, automatic voltage regulation (AVR) corrects it on its own without switching to battery. That keeps the batteries in reserve for a real outage and helps them last longer. Energy saving technology lowers the UPS's own consumption, which adds up over a year for a device that runs around the clock.

Minutes for a clean shutdown

According to the manufacturer, the UPS typically runs on battery for 3.5 minutes at full load and 14 minutes at half load. That is enough to ride out short outages and, during a longer one, to save data and shut servers down properly. After an outage the batteries recharge in a typical 8 hours. The output is a simulated sine wave, which suits IT equipment with ordinary switching power supplies.

Remote management and automatic shutdown

The USB port connects the UPS to a server or computer, and PowerPanel software can shut the system down cleanly during an outage even when nobody is around. An optional network card adds SNMP/HTTP remote management: UPS status shows up in a web interface or monitoring system, and alerts reach the administrator even when they are not in the server room.

Protection beyond power cuts

Besides backup power, the UPS protects connected devices against overload, surges and voltage spikes. Phone, fax, modem, DSL and network lines are protected too, so during a thunderstorm a spike cannot reach the router through the cable either. EMI and RFI filtering cleans electromagnetic noise from the supply. The batteries are hot-swappable, so they can be replaced without powering down the connected equipment.

Who this UPS is for

Small businesses with a server, NAS or video recorder and switches in a rack who do not want to waste rack space; IT administrators who need automatic shutdown over USB or SNMP; and offices where a power cut must not suddenly take down the router and storage.

Questions & answers

How long does the UPS run on battery?

According to the manufacturer, typically 3.5 minutes at full load (600 W) and 14 minutes at half load. At lower loads the runtime is longer.

Can the UPS shut down a server automatically?

Yes. Over USB with PowerPanel software, the UPS can shut the system down cleanly during an outage. Over the network this is possible with the optional SNMP/HTTP card.

How many devices can I connect?

The manufacturer does not specify the number or type of output sockets. The combined power of the connected devices must stay below 600 W.

Can the batteries be replaced while it is running?

Yes, the batteries are hot-swappable, so the connected devices do not need to be switched off during replacement.
