Eaton 9SX2000IR UPS 2000 VA / 1800 W, online

The Eaton 9SX2000IR is an online topology UPS rated at 2000 VA / 1800 W. Connected servers and network equipment are fed continuously through the UPS inverter, so mains disturbances and short outages do not reach them. An automatic shutdown function helps close everything down cleanly during a long outage.

Description

Online topology for sensitive equipment

An online UPS converts incoming AC to DC and then back to AC. The load never sees mains spikes, sags or noise directly, and when the power fails there is no transfer time because the battery is always in the circuit. For servers, storage systems and office phone exchanges, this is the most dependable form of protection.

1800 W for several servers

2000 VA is apparent power and 1800 W is the real power your equipment may actually draw. A power factor of 0.9 means most of the apparent rating is usable in watts too. To size the load, add up the real consumption of your servers, NAS units and switches and keep about a fifth in reserve so the UPS is not running at its limit.

Automatic shutdown during a long outage

The manufacturer lists an automatic shutdown function. If an outage lasts longer than the battery can carry the load, the UPS can shut your equipment down cleanly before the battery is exhausted. That way a database write is not cut off halfway and the file system is not left damaged. Which interface or software is used to set it up is covered in the manufacturer's manual.

The 9SX series and the model code

9SX is Eaton's online UPS series, and the 2000 in the model code is the apparent power in volt-amperes. Outlet count and type, battery data and chassis form are not given in our data for this model, so check the manufacturer's datasheet before installation to see how equipment connects and where the unit is mounted.

Who this UPS is for

Companies whose servers, storage and network equipment need continuous, clean power. IT administrators who want equipment to shut itself down during a long outage so data stays intact. And medical, lab or production environments where sensitive instruments cannot tolerate mains disturbances or a transfer gap.

Questions & answers

Can the UPS shut down a server automatically?

Yes, the manufacturer lists an automatic shutdown function. The connection method and software are described in the manufacturer's manual.

How long does the 9SX2000IR run during a power cut?

The manufacturer does not specify runtime. It depends on the load: the lower your consumption compared with 1800 W, the longer it runs.

What is the difference between an online and a line-interactive UPS?

A line-interactive UPS passes mains power through in normal operation and switches to battery when it fails. An online UPS always feeds the load through its inverter, so there is no transfer and the output stays stable even on poor mains.
