Magnetic switches without the cable
In a Hall Effect switch the key position is read by a sensor that detects the movement of a magnet, not by a mechanical contact. Nothing rubs together, so the switch does not wear the way a regular mechanical switch does. The Tenkeyless format drops the number pad but keeps the F-key row and the arrow keys. The wireless connection clears the cable off the desk, and the 8KHz in the name refers to an 8 kHz polling rate.
