How to choose a blender
A blender makes the morning smoothie, a puréed soup, pancake batter and an iced cocktail, but the wrong type ends up at the back of a cupboard: a jug blender is clumsy for one portion, a hand blender cannot crush ice. Pick the type first, then power and capacity.
- Type. A jug (countertop) blender suits smoothies, ice and large batches. A hand blender works straight in the pot and takes little space. A portable blender makes one portion straight into a bottle.
- Power. 300–600 W is enough for soft fruit and purées, 800–1200 W crushes ice and frozen berries, 1300–1800 W grinds nuts and oats too. For a hand blender, 600–1200 W is already plenty.
- Jug capacity and material. 0.6–1 l for one or two people, 1.5–2 l for a family. Glass takes on no odours and does not scratch; Tritan plastic is light and unbreakable. Check the usable capacity.
- Speeds and programmes. Two speeds and a pulse cover most needs; ice and self-clean programmes are a bonus, not a must.
- Attachments and care. A chopper and whisk for a hand blender, a bottle for a jug one. Removable blades and dishwasher-safe parts save minutes every day.
Blenders in our range
The widest choice is jug blenders: Philips HR2765/HR2766 800–1000 W, Tefal BlendForce 600–800 W and BL985A31 1300 W with a glass jug, Bosch VitaPower MMB6141S 1200 W with a Tritan jug, Gorenje B1300E 1300 W with a 1.75 l jug, Caso MX 1000 1300 W, Cecotec Power Black Titanium 1200 W, and the most powerful Camry CR 4088 1800 W and Philips HR3760 1500 W with a 2 l jug. Brands
Philips is the widest brand in the range across jug and hand blenders, known for reliability. Tefal BlendForce is the cheapest route to glass, Bosch VitaPower is German quality built to last. Braun MultiQuick is the hand-blender classic, while Gorenje and Caso offer 1300 W at a sensible price. Cecotec is a Spanish brand with many features; Camry, Adler and Mesko cover the budget end.
Care and delivery
Wash the jug right after use: half a jug of warm water, a drop of detergent and 20 seconds of pulse. Blend hot soup (over 60 °C) only if the maker allows it, and fill the jug halfway. As a small item, a blender reaches an Omniva, DPD or Venipak locker within 1–2 working days.

Frequently asked questions
Jug blender or hand blender? For smoothies and ice a jug blender, for soups, baby food and sauces a hand blender. If there is room for one, take a hand blender with chopper and whisk — it covers 80% of jobs.
How many watts does a blender need to crush ice? At least 800 W and sturdy steel blades. 1200 W and up makes crushed ice in seconds, even from frozen berries.
Is a portable blender powerful enough? A 45–180 W motor handles soft fruit and yoghurt. It will not crush ice or frozen berries — add those partly thawed.
Glass or plastic jug? Glass takes on no odours and handles heat, but it is heavy. Tritan plastic is light and unbreakable; ordinary plastic goes cloudy over time.
Why does the blender get hot and stop? The overload protection kicked in — the mixture is too thick or the run too long. Let it cool for 10 minutes, add liquid and use short pulses.
