The drive can be used with LaCie Toolkit software: a backup starts with one click or automatically on a schedule, and folders can be mirrored across several devices. The drive is plug and play, so no extra drivers are needed. Up to 130 MB/s is typical for a hard drive; copying a large photo library takes a while, but it is fine for regular backups.
Mac and iPad users whose devices have only USB-C ports; home users who want a copy of their photos and documents kept outside the computer; and anyone who wants a portable drive with a metal housing and low weight.
