Description

Wi-Fi 6 that handles many devices at once

Wi-Fi 6, or 802.11ax, is newer than Wi-Fi 5 and copes better when phones, a laptop and a tablet share the same network. On the 5 GHz band speeds reach 2402 Mbit/s, which suits video and large files, while the 2.4 GHz band at up to 574 Mbit/s gets through walls more easily. Older 802.11ac and 802.11n devices connect too.

Who this router is for

Travellers who want their own Wi-Fi network in a hotel or rented flat from a single wired connection; remote workers who need to share one Ethernet socket between all their devices; and families at a summer house that has no wireless network yet. The low weight and two external antennas make it an easy companion on the road.

Questions & answers

Can I use a SIM card in this router?

No. According to the manufacturer it has no mobile broadband support, so a SIM card cannot be used directly. Internet comes into the router through the RJ-45 port.

Does the MR84X support mesh?

No, the manufacturer lists no mesh support, and there is no MU-MIMO either. It is a standalone router that creates one Wi-Fi network of its own.

How large an area does the Wi-Fi cover?

The manufacturer does not specify coverage, as it depends on walls and interference. The two external omni-directional antennas spread the signal evenly in every direction.
