The built-in 10GbE SFP+ port cuts transfer and backup times for large files when the NAS is connected to a 10-gigabit switch or computer. The two 2.5GbE RJ-45 ports work on a regular copper network and can be used together through SMB Multichannel or Port Trunking. SMB Multichannel suits home and small office users, while Port Trunking is meant for business networks with a switch.
Four hot-swappable bays take 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch SATA hard drives and SSDs. RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and JBOD are supported, along with a hot spare and automatic rebuild: a new drive inserted in place of a failed one is added back to the array on its own. DA Drive Analyzer uses ULINK cloud-based AI to predict drive lifespan and help you plan replacements in good time.
The Annapurna Labs Alpine AL-524 is a quad-core processor running at 2.0 GHz that, according to QNAP, keeps power consumption low. It comes with a 4 GB DDR4 SO-DIMM module (1 × 4 GB); there is one memory slot and capacity can be raised to 16 GB. The installed module is non-ECC, but the NAS also supports ECC memory, which corrects memory errors on the fly.
The PCIe Gen 3 x4 slot can take a 2.5GbE, 5GbE or 10GbE network card or a card with M.2 SSD slots. Container Station runs Docker containers, from smart home and media apps to developer tools, and App Center adds backup and sync applications. For video surveillance the NAS is compatible with over 8000 IP cameras as well as ONVIF cameras, and snapshots protect data against ransomware.
The NAS measures 160 × 165 × 226.5 mm and weighs 1.99 kg without drives. A single 120 mm fan keeps it cool and power comes from an external 90 W adapter. The two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports support One Touch Copy, so a flash drive or external disk can be backed up without a computer. A power cable and a network cable are included, and the chassis has a Kensington lock slot.
