Description

A managed network in one rack unit

A managed switch lets you split the network into segments, so that cameras, guest Wi-Fi and office computers stay separated, and lets you monitor what is happening on each port. L2+ denotes a switch that adds some Layer 3 capabilities on top of its Layer 2 features; the exact list is in Teltonika's technical data. The four SFP slots link the rack to other floors or buildings over fibre.

Who this network switch is for

Businesses that need 24 gigabit ports in a single device in their server room or network cabinet; IT administrators who want to segment the network and manage ports; and buildings where floors or separate blocks are linked by fibre.

Questions & answers

What is the difference between a managed and an unmanaged switch?

An unmanaged switch simply forwards traffic. On the managed SWM281 you can configure ports, split the network into separate segments (VLANs) and monitor how it runs.

Does the switch fit a server rack?

Yes, it is designed for mounting in a standard 19″ rack.

Does the SWM281 power devices over PoE?

The manufacturer does not specify PoE support, so plan on a separate PoE switch or injector to power cameras and access points.
