TP-Link Archer A6 is a dual-band Wi-Fi 5 router with 1200 Mbit/s in total. Five antennas, MU-MIMO and beamforming spread the signal evenly through the home, and five gigabit ports give a fast wired connection to a computer, TV or console.

Description

Two bands and five antennas

The 2.4 GHz band at up to 300 Mbit/s handles email and browsing, while 5 GHz at up to 867 Mbit/s is meant for HD video and online gaming. Four external antennas and one internal antenna, together with beamforming and MU-MIMO, steer the signal towards devices and let the router serve several clients at once. In access point mode, Archer A6 adds Wi-Fi to an existing wired network.

Who this router is for

Flats or houses with a fast fibre or cable line that need gigabit ports; families streaming video and gaming at the same time; and anyone who wants to manage the network from a phone with the Tether app. VPN support lets you reach your home network remotely as well.

Questions & answers

Does the router work with mobile internet?

No. It has no SIM card slot and no USB port, the internet connects through the RJ-45 WAN port.

Can Archer A6 work as an access point?

Yes. In access point mode it shares an existing wired network over Wi-Fi, with the router functions switched off.

Does MU-MIMO work with every device?

According to the manufacturer, only clients that support MU-MIMO themselves benefit from it. Other devices work as usual.
