TP-Link Archer MR500 4G router 4G+ Cat6, Wi-Fi 5 AC1200, 4 × 1G

TP-Link Archer MR500 is a 4G router that needs nothing more than a Nano SIM card to get online: the 4G+ connection is shared over dual-band Wi-Fi 5 and four gigabit ports. It suits places that cable or fibre broadband does not reach, and also works as a backup line.

  • Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) AC1200 – up to 300 Mbit/s on 2.4 GHz, up to 867 Mbit/s on 5 GHz
  • Mobile: 4G+ LTE Cat6 (LTE-FDD) up to 300 Mbit/s download, 3G DC-HSPA+/HSPA/UMTS, Nano SIM
  • Ports: 4 × gigabit RJ-45, WAN connection to a cable, fibre or DSL modem
  • Antennas: 2 detachable external LTE antennas, MU-MIMO, Beamforming, OneMesh
  • Management: Tether app and web interface, guest network, VPN server (OpenVPN, PPTP)
  • Power and size: DC adapter included, 202 × 141 × 33.6 mm

Description

4G+ internet and Wi-Fi in one box

The Archer MR500 works like a phone: insert a Nano SIM card and the router connects without any configuration. 4G+ Cat6 uses carrier aggregation, combining several operator signals for download speeds of up to 300 Mbit/s. Two detachable external antennas improve reception. If the house also has cable broadband, the modem goes into the WAN port and 4G stays as a backup.

Who this 4G router is for

Summer cottages, country houses and temporary offices where there is no cable and the internet has to come from the mobile network. Families who connect a TV, games console and NAS to the gigabit ports and their phones and laptops to dual-band Wi-Fi. And small businesses that need a 4G backup line to keep working when the wired connection drops.

Questions & answers

Which SIM card does the Archer MR500 take?

A Nano SIM. According to the manufacturer, SIM compatibility has been tested in more than 100 countries.

Can it work as a regular router?

Yes. In Wi-Fi router mode you connect a cable, fibre or DSL modem to the LAN/WAN port, and the mobile connection stays in reserve in case the main line goes down.

Can the network be extended with mesh?

Yes, the Archer MR500 supports TP-Link OneMesh: together with OneMesh-compatible devices it forms one network under a single name, and devices move between rooms without dropping the connection.
