Description

Wi-Fi 7 across three bands

The Dream 7 runs on 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz at the same time. The 2.4 GHz band (up to 688 Mbit/s) reaches further and suits smart home devices, 5 GHz (up to 4300 Mbit/s) is the fast everyday network, and 6 GHz (up to 5700 Mbit/s) gives newer phones and laptops less crowded channels. MU-MIMO serves several devices simultaneously, so a video call does not slow down when someone else is downloading a file.

2.5G ports and 10G SFP+

The four RJ-45 ports run at 2.5 Gbit/s, two and a half times faster than standard gigabit, which helps with a NAS, a workstation or a second access point. The SFP+ slot accepts fiber internet or a fast uplink of up to 10 Gbit/s, which is why the manufacturer calls it a 10G cloud gateway. There is no USB port, no DSL and no SIM card slot.

Built-in PoE switch

According to the manufacturer, the Dream 7 has an integrated PoE switch, so a camera or access point can be powered straight from the router over the same network cable. Both AC and PoE are listed as power sources, with a PoE voltage of 57 V. The exact number of PoE ports and their power budget are not specified by the manufacturer.

VPN and security without extra hardware

For remote access there is WireGuard, OpenVPN and L2TP, plus Ubiquiti's own Teleport zero-configuration VPN and Identity Endpoint One-Click VPN. The wireless network supports WPA2, WPA3, WPA-Enterprise and PPSK, which lets different users have different passwords on the same network. The built-in firewall, filtering and 802.1Q VLANs keep guest and smart home devices apart from work computers.

Business-grade routing and management

The router supports OSPF routing, policy-based routing, load balancing and QoS configuration. A quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor at 1.5 GHz provides the performance for it. There is an LCM status display, Bluetooth and a microSD slot for storage. Management runs through a web interface, and the manufacturer also highlights full support for UniFi applications.

A compact enclosure for the desk

The white polycarbonate enclosure measures 110 × 110 × 184.1 mm and weighs 1.1 kg, so it fits on a shelf or desk. It runs on 100–240 V mains, the power cable is included and typical consumption is 26 W. The antennas sit inside the housing, so nothing sticks out. The operating temperature range is −10 to 40 °C.

Who this router is for

Homes and small offices with fiber internet and several Wi-Fi 7 devices; home offices that need VPN access and separate networks for work and guests; and anyone who wants a single device that acts as router, access point, PoE switch and hub for UniFi applications.

Questions & answers

Does the router work with a SIM card?

No. There is no SIM card slot, and according to the manufacturer it does not support 3G/4G USB modems either. The internet connects through an RJ-45 or SFP+ port.

How large an area does the Wi-Fi cover?

The manufacturer states a maximum coverage of 160 m² and up to 300 simultaneously connected devices. Real coverage depends on walls and placement.

Can fiber internet be connected directly?

The router has an SFP+ slot that takes a fiber optic module. Alternatively, the provider terminal can be connected to an RJ-45 port.

Which VPN types does the router support?

WireGuard, OpenVPN, L2TP, Teleport and Identity Endpoint One-Click VPN.
