TP-Link Omada ER706WP-4G 4G router, dual SIM, Wi-Fi 6, 4 × PoE+

TP-Link Omada ER706WP-4G is a 4G router for small businesses that combines dual-nanoSIM mobile internet, dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and five gigabit ports, four of them with PoE+ power output, in one device. With a second SIM and a wired WAN, the network keeps running when one connection drops. It is managed through the Omada cloud, the app or a web interface.

  • Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 6, OFDMA, MU-MIMO
  • Bands: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
  • Mobile network: 4G LTE, two nanoSIM slots (dual SIM), USB port for a 3G/4G USB modem
  • Ports: 5 × gigabit RJ-45, 4 of them with PoE+ output
  • Antennas: 5 detachable external antennas, gain up to 4.5 dBi
  • Management: Omada SDN (cloud and app), web interface, SSID-based VLAN, SNMP, SNMPv2, SNMPv3
  • VPN: IPsec, PPTP, L2TP, OpenVPN, WireGuard, up to 50 tunnels

Description

Two SIM cards to keep business running

The ER706WP-4G has two nanoSIM slots. According to the manufacturer, dual SIM is meant for automatic failover and backup WAN: if one mobile or wired connection fails, the other takes over, and the till, cameras and office computers stay online. Supported 4G bands are 800, 850, 900, 1500, 1700, 1800, 1900, 2000, 2300, 2400, 2500, 2600, 3400, 3500, 3600 and 3700 MHz. As a further option, a 3G/4G USB modem can be plugged into the USB port.

Wi-Fi 6 and PoE+ in one box

Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 with OFDMA and MU-MIMO serves several devices at once, so a small office or café does not always need a separate access point. Five detachable external antennas with gain of up to 4.5 dBi concentrate the signal. Four gigabit ports supply PoE+ power, so an access point, IP camera or IP phone can be connected with a single cable and no separate power adapter.

VPN for linking offices and remote staff

The router supports IPsec, PPTP, L2TP, OpenVPN and WireGuard tunnels, up to 50 at the same time. That lets you link a branch to the head office or give remote employees secure access to the internal network. VPN passthrough also lets devices' own VPN connections through. The wired WAN port supports DHCP, PPPoE, L2TP and PPTP connections, so the router works with different internet providers.

Omada cloud management across sites

The ER706WP-4G is part of the Omada SDN system: Omada gateways, switches and access points can be managed centrally through the cloud controller or the Omada app, including across several sites. Without the cloud, management runs in the web interface. SSID-based VLANs separate, for example, guest and staff Wi-Fi, and SNMP, SNMPv2, SNMPv3 lets network monitoring tools watch the device.

Security and installation

The router offers URL filtering and traffic filters, and Wi-Fi encryption supports WPA, WPA2 and WPA3-Personal. The black case measures 226 × 131 × 35 mm and sits on a desk or mounts on a wall, with indicators for power, system, status, LTE and WLAN. The manufacturer lists an operating temperature of 0–40 °C, and power comes from a DC adapter.

Who this router is for

Small businesses, tills, cafés and site offices where the internet has to keep working when one connection is lost; companies already running Omada switches and access points; and IT administrators who want a 4G backup line, Wi-Fi 6, PoE+ ports and VPN in one device.

Questions & answers

What are the two SIM slots for?

Two nanoSIM slots let you use two mobile operators: if one connection drops, the router switches to the other. A wired WAN connection can also serve as a backup.

How many devices can the PoE+ ports power?

Four ports provide PoE+ output. The manufacturer does not specify the total PoE budget in watts, so for power-hungry devices add up their consumption beforehand.

Can I use the router without the Omada cloud?

Yes. The router has a web-based management interface; the cloud controller and Omada app are an extra option for managing several devices and sites.

Does the router support VLANs?

Yes, SSID-based VLAN assignment is supported: each Wi-Fi network can be mapped to its own VLAN, for example for guests and staff.
