How to choose a charger

Phones no longer ship with a charger and the laptop's own brick is big and heavy — a good USB-C charger replaces both and tops up your earbuds and watch at the same time. Pick the wattage by the device, not by the advert.

Frequently asked questions

Will a 100 W charger damage my phone? No. The PD charger and the phone negotiate the power and the phone draws only 20–45 W. One charger can feed everything from a watch to a laptop.

What is a GaN charger? A gallium-nitride charger that is half the size of a silicon one at the same wattage and runs cooler. For travel and a bag it is the obvious choice.

Does a USB-C charger work with a MacBook? Yes, any PD charger of suitable wattage: MacBook Air 30–35 W, 14″ Pro 67–96 W, 16″ Pro 140 W. The MagSafe 3 cable also works with any PD charger.

Why does my phone charge slowly from a multi-port charger? With two ports in use the charger splits its power — 65 W becomes 45 + 20 W. Check the split on the box or choose a more powerful charger.

How is a charger delivered? To a parcel locker (Omniva, DPD) or by courier within 1–2 working days.
