The AXAGON HMC-HCR3A is a USB hub in an aluminium body that adds three USB-A ports, an HDMI output and an SD/microSD card reader to a laptop, computer or phone through one USB-C port. The connection runs at USB 3.2 Gen 1 speed, up to 5 Gbps.

Description

HDMI that needs the right USB-C port

The HDMI output shows up to 4K at 30 Hz, WQHD up to 60 Hz and Full HD up to 120 Hz. HDCP 1.4 and 2.3 are supported, along with up to 8-channel audio. Video works only if the computer USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode or is a Thunderbolt 3 port.

A card reader for two cards at once

The SD and microSD slots work simultaneously, so files can be copied directly from one card to the other. SDHC, SDXC and MMC cards up to 2 TB are supported. The USB-A ports handle several external drives and charge a phone at up to 1.5 A, 3 A in total.

Who this USB hub is for

Owners of a thin laptop without USB-A sockets, a card reader or a video output, and photographers who copy images straight from a card. No extra drivers are needed, as they are built into the system. Supported systems are Windows 10 and 11, macOS, Linux, Android and ChromeOS.

Questions & answers

Does the hub charge my laptop?

No. This hub has no USB PD support, so the laptop is charged with its own charger. The USB-A ports can charge a phone or tablet.

Why is there no picture over HDMI?

Video requires the computer USB-C port to support DP Alt Mode or Thunderbolt 3, plus an updated operating system. Otherwise only the USB ports and card reader work.

Can I use the hub with a phone?

Yes, a phone with USB-C can take a flash drive, keyboard, mouse or monitor through the hub. For video the phone must also support DP Alt Mode.
