An E-marker chip that unlocks 100 W charging
The cable has a built-in E-marker chip that tells connected devices what the cable can handle. That is what lets a laptop, tablet or phone draw up to 100 W, or up to 5 A. The same cable moves data at up to 10 Gbps and video at up to 4K 60 Hz, provided the computer's USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode.
