Of the sixteen Gigabit ports, eight supply power according to 802.3af and 802.3at, while the other eight are plain data ports. Total PoE power is 150 W, shared among the connected devices. Wi-Fi access points, IP cameras and IP phones can be powered straight from the switch, with no separate injectors or power adapters, and all the equipment stays together in one rack.
Two SFP+ cages support 10 Gbit/s connections. Use one as an uplink to the core network or another building and the other for a fast NAS or server that serves several workstations at once. Because the Gigabit workstations share a fast connection, access to the server does not become a bottleneck even when several users are working with files at the same time.
Unlike an ordinary switch, the CRS418 carries a quad-core ARM CPU at 2.2 GHz with RouterOS, so it can also handle routing, network monitoring and Layer 3 hardware offloading. A dedicated Gigabit management port is wired directly to the CPU, keeping management separate from the main network. The USB 3.2 Gen 1 port accepts, for example, a USB drive for logs or files.
Everything fits into a 1U chassis measuring 443 × 230 × 44 mm. It runs on 100–240 V AC, with typical consumption of 28 W and a maximum of 215 W including PoE load. The unit operates from −20 to 70 °C and is rated IP20, meaning it is meant for indoor use. MikroTik designed it to replace a jungle of separate devices in the server room with one tidy box.
