Ubiquiti UniFi USW-48-PoE switch 48 × 1G, 32 × PoE+, 195 W, 4 × SFP, 1U

All 48 RJ-45 ports run at gigabit speed and accept 10 and 100 Mbit/s devices too, with auto MDI/MDI-X and auto-sensing setting up each link on their own. Four 1 Gbit/s SFP slots handle links to the router, a core switch or a switch on another floor, over fibre if needed. A switching capacity of 104 Gbit/s and a forwarding rate of 77.38 million packets per second cover the full speed of every port at once.

Thirty-two ports supply PoE+ to the IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at standards, up to 32 W per port and up to 195 W in total. The remaining 16 ports have no PoE and suit computers, printers and servers. With all 32 PoE ports occupied the average is about 6 W per device, which is enough for IP phones, while for more demanding access points and cameras the power draw should be added up beforehand.

According to the manufacturer, the USW-48-PoE has no fan and is cooled passively. Without a fan the switch makes no noise and does not pull in dust, and there is one less part to wear out. That matters when the server cabinet stands in an office, a classroom or an open-plan space with people sitting a few metres away. The operating range is −5 to 40 °C at 10–90 % humidity.

The switch supports VLANs, so cameras, phones, guest Wi-Fi and office computers can live on separate networks. Link aggregation bundles several ports into one wider connection, and 802.1X and RADIUS admit only authenticated devices. Port mirroring, spanning tree protocol, flow control and jumbo frames are also supported. The 1.3-inch colour LCM touchscreen on the front supports augmented reality (AR) switch management.

The 1U chassis measures 442.4 × 285 × 43.7 mm and weighs 4.52 kg. The switch mounts in a rack, and the built-in power supply runs on 100–240 V AC at 50–60 Hz. Port LEDs show activity, link and speed, so a cable problem is visible without even opening the app.
