MikroTik QRT 5 RB911G-5HPnD-QRT outdoor access point 5 GHz, 24 dBi, PoE

The MikroTik QRT 5 (RB911G-5HPnD-QRT) is an outdoor access point with a RouterBOARD and a high-power 5 GHz transmitter built into a flat panel antenna. The 24 dBi antenna and narrow beam are made mainly for point-to-point links between buildings.

  • Wi-Fi: IEEE 802.11a/n
  • Band: 5 GHz (4.9–5.875 GHz)
  • Port: 1 × RJ-45 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, powered via PoE
  • Antenna: integrated 24 dBi flat panel, dual polarization, 10.5° beam horizontally and vertically
  • Management: RouterOS, Qualcomm Atheros AR9342, 64 MB RAM, 128 MB flash
  • Power and mounting: PoE, maximum consumption 11 W, mounting kit included

Description

A narrow beam for long links

The 10.5° beam focuses the signal in one direction, so the QRT 5 is made for joining two points rather than covering the area around it. The dual-polarization antenna and two chains let you use 802.11n speeds, which the Gigabit port passes on in full. The unit takes power from the same network cable. It measures 309 × 320 × 50 mm and comes in white.

Who this access point is for

Installers linking two buildings by radio, such as an office and a warehouse or a house and an outbuilding; network operators who need an outdoor 5 GHz unit managed in RouterOS; and MikroTik network owners who want to manage the link in the same system as the rest of their gear.

Questions & answers

How is the unit powered?

Via PoE, meaning over the same network cable that carries the data. Maximum consumption is 11 W, so no power socket is needed at the mounting point.

Is the QRT 5 suitable for a point-to-point link?

Yes, the manufacturer names point-to-point links as its main use. A link needs a unit at each end, and the antennas must be aimed precisely at each other.

How far does the link reach?

The manufacturer does not specify a maximum distance. It depends on the device at the other end, obstacles and interference; the antenna gain is 24 dBi.
