The TP-Link TL-WA801N is a straightforward access point that adds Wi-Fi to a wired network or extends an existing wireless network to spots the router cannot reach. The 802.11n standard and two external antennas deliver up to 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band.

Description

Passive PoE lets you mount it where there is no socket

The supplied PoE injector sends data and power down one network cable for up to 30 metres, so the access point can go on a wall or ceiling where the signal spreads best. A 9 V / 0.6 A power adapter and a LAN cable are also in the box. The unit measures 181.6 × 129.5 × 36.2 mm and has a power switch and a reset button.

Who this access point is for

The TL-WA801N suits a small office, apartment or summer cottage that needs Wi-Fi added to a wired network or a dead zone covered. In client mode it connects an Ethernet-only device such as a games console, media player, printer or NAS to the wireless network. This model has no gigabit port and no 5 GHz band.

Questions & answers

Does it support 5 GHz?

No. The TL-WA801N works only on 2.4 GHz with 802.11b/g/n, and its maximum speed is 300 Mbps.

Can it extend my existing Wi-Fi network?

Yes. In range extender mode it repeats the signal of your current router, and WDS is supported too. Multi-SSID and client modes are also available.
