Ubiquiti ES-24-250W network switch 24 × 1G, PoE+, 2 × SFP, L2/L3, rackmount

The switch supports IEEE 802.3af (PoE) and 802.3at (PoE+), so security cameras, Wi-Fi access points and IP phones draw power over the same cable that carries their data. There is no need to run a mains cable or find a socket near each device, which simplifies ceiling and facade installations. Maximum power consumption is 250 W; how much of that is available to PoE devices and per port is not specified separately by the manufacturer.

All 24 RJ-45 ports are Gigabit Ethernet at 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, which is plenty for computers, cameras and access points. Two 1 Gbit/s SFP slots let you link the switch over fiber to equipment in another building or on another floor, where a copper cable would run out of length. This model has no 10G support.

Unlike an unmanaged switch, the ES-24-250W is configured through a web interface. L2/L3 means it does more than forward frames: it also supports layer 3 functions used to route traffic between network segments. The switch is stackable, so several units can be handled together. The manufacturer does not publish a full feature list in the data provided.

A switching capacity of 52 Gbit/s covers every port running at full speed in both directions at once, so ports do not have to wait for each other even on a busy network. Throughput of 38.69 million packets per second and an 8000-entry MAC address table are sized for networks with hundreds of devices.

A width of 485.04 mm and a height of 44.45 mm match one unit (1U) of a 19″ rack, with a depth of 285.6 mm. The power supply is built in and runs on 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz. LEDs show link, activity and PoE status for each port, so faults are quick to find. The operating temperature range is −5 to 40 °C.
