Description

Three bands and eight streams for a busy office

The U7-PRO-XGS supports the Wi-Fi 7 standard (IEEE 802.11be) as well as 802.11n, 802.11ac and 802.11ax devices. Maximum data rates are 8600 Mbit/s on the 5 GHz band, 5800 Mbit/s on 6 GHz and 688 Mbit/s on 2.4 GHz. The 6 GHz band carries no traffic from older devices, so new phones and laptops get a cleaner channel there. Eight spatial streams and MU-MIMO share the connection among many devices at the same time.

A spectral scanning radio that keeps channels clean

On top of the three radios that serve clients, the access point has a dedicated radio whose only job is to scan the airwaves continuously. Interference and busy channels can therefore be detected without interrupting users' connections. In a crowded office building, where neighbouring networks and other devices share the same airspace, this helps pick the channel that gives steadier speeds. Transmit power reaches 23 dBm on 2.4 GHz, 29 dBm on 5 GHz and 24 dBm on 6 GHz.

A 10 GbE port that keeps up with Wi-Fi 7

The single RJ-45 port supports 1, 2.5, 5 and 10 Gbit/s. Connected to a 10-gigabit switch, the cable no longer limits the combined Wi-Fi 7 throughput, yet the access point still works on an existing 1 or 2.5 Gbit/s network when needed. Power comes over the same cable via PoE++ (4PPoE) with a maximum consumption of 29 W, so check that your switch port or injector delivers PoE++ power, because a standard PoE+ port may not be enough.

Seamless roaming and mesh across large areas

The fast roaming standards 802.11r, 802.11k and 802.11v let a phone or laptop move from one access point to the next without dropping a video call. Band steering moves capable devices to the faster bands, and wireless meshing lets you place an access point where there is no cable. Management features include VLAN support, rate limiting, a Wi-Fi schedule, Hotspot 2.0 and PPSK, which gives different user groups their own password and network.

A slim housing for the ceiling or wall

The access point measures 215 × 215 × 32.5 mm and weighs 0.8 kg, with a white housing made of metal and polycarbonate. The mounting kit is included and the unit can go on a ceiling or a wall. A status LED shows its state and there is a reset button. Operating temperature is −30 to 40 °C at 5–95 % relative humidity. According to the manufacturer, one unit covers up to 160 m² and serves up to 500 users.

Who this access point is for

Companies whose offices have many people and devices online at once; schools, conference centres and hotels where hundreds of users gather under a single access point; and network administrators who have already built a 10 GbE cabled network and want Wi-Fi 7 speeds to actually reach the servers and the internet.

Questions & answers

What kind of switch does this access point need?

It needs a PoE++ (4PPoE) port or injector for power, since maximum consumption is 29 W. For full speed the switch port must support 10 Gbit/s, but 1, 2.5 and 5 Gbit/s are supported as well.

Does it work on a gigabit network?

Yes, the port also supports 1 Gbit/s. In that case the cable limits all wireless traffic to 1 Gbit/s, even though the Wi-Fi 7 radio is faster.

How many users can it serve?

According to the manufacturer, up to 500 users over a coverage area of up to 160 m². The real number depends on how much data the devices move at the same time.

Can several access points form a mesh network?

Yes, wireless meshing is supported. The 802.11r/k/v fast roaming standards also help devices move smoothly between access points.
