Description

Long PoE runs for distant cameras

An Ethernet cable normally limits the distance to a device to about 100 metres. A DIP switch puts the switch into extended mode, where power and data reach up to 250 m, so a camera in the car park, at the gate or in a warehouse yard needs no extra switch in between. Hi-PoE port 1 gives up to 60 W to a more demanding device, while the other ports share the rest of the budget.

Who this network switch is for

Video surveillance in a retail outlet, office, house or warehouse with up to eight PoE cameras and one recorder. 100 Mbit/s ports are enough for camera video streams, and the uplink port carries the picture to the recorder or router. The switch works as soon as the cables are plugged in, with an operating range of –10 to 55 °C.

How many cameras can it power?

There are eight PoE ports and a 96 W total budget. If each camera draws up to 12 W, all eight can run at once; a more powerful device goes on port 1, which supplies up to 60 W.

Can it be managed or set up with VLANs?

No, it is an unmanaged L2 switch with no web interface. It learns and ages MAC addresses on its own, and there are no VLANs or per-port settings.

Does it fit a server rack?

The manufacturer does not support rack mounting. The switch stands on a desk or mounts on a wall, and the housing has a hole for an anti-theft lock.
