Description

Ryzen 3 8300G: four cores and graphics on one chip

The AMD Ryzen 3 8300G is a four-core desktop processor that handles a browser full of tabs, documents, spreadsheets, email, video calls and business applications. The G in its name means the graphics are built into the processor, so no separate graphics card is needed to drive a display. In a desktop, the processor does not have to limit its performance to save battery as it would in a laptop.

DDR5 memory and an SSD for smooth work

Memory is 8 GB of DDR5 at 4800 MHz, fitted as a single 8 GB module. DDR5 is the newer standard, with more bandwidth than the previous generation, which also benefits the integrated graphics that share the same memory. The 512 GB SSD starts the system and programs quickly and holds both applications and local files.

Integrated graphics for office work and video

The picture comes from the graphics integrated in the processor. That is enough for office work, presentations, video calls and video playback, as well as for keeping several browser windows or spreadsheets side by side. 3D games, video editing and heavier graphics work call for a computer with a separate graphics card. The advantage of the integrated approach is simplicity: one less heat source in the case and no extra components to manage.

Wi-Fi 6 and a slim chassis for flexible placement

The computer supports Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), so there is no need to run a network cable to every desk, and in a busy office network Wi-Fi 6 gives a steadier connection than older standards. The QCS1255 is a Dell Pro model in the Slim chassis: the slim desktop case is noticeably smaller than a tower and fits next to the monitor, on a shelf or under the desk. No keyboard is included, so existing peripherals stay in use.

Ubuntu: an open system without a Windows licence

The computer ships with Ubuntu, a widely used Linux distribution. It suits developers, network and server tasks, kiosks, information displays and office work with LibreOffice and web apps. Ubuntu usually needs less memory than Windows, so 8 GB is a comfortable amount for it. The IT department can deploy its own system image, and if Windows is needed later, it can be installed with a separate licence.

Who this desktop computer is for

Companies equipping an office with identical compact Linux workstations; developers and system administrators who prefer Ubuntu; schools, libraries and information desks where the computer mostly handles browser and document work and connects over Wi-Fi; and IT departments that use their own system image and existing keyboards.
