TP-Link RE600X range extender Wi-Fi 6 AX1800, dual-band, LAN port

The TP-Link RE600X is a Wi-Fi 6 range extender in the AX1800 class that picks up your existing router's signal and carries it into rooms the network would not otherwise reach. Two bands, MU-MIMO and an RJ-45 port fit into a small housing with internal antennas.

  • Wi-Fi: 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6), AX1800 class
  • Bands: 5 GHz (802.11a/n/ac/ax) and 2.4 GHz (802.11b/g/n/ax)
  • Port: 1 × RJ-45, no PoE
  • Antennas: 2 internal, MU-MIMO support

Description

Wi-Fi 6 coverage where the router falls short

The extender goes between the router and the weak-signal room, at a spot where reception is still good. The RE600X then repeats the network on both bands, so phones, laptops and the TV in the far room get a steadier connection. Wi-Fi 6 support lets newer devices use the faster 802.11ax link, while MU-MIMO lets several devices exchange data at the same time. The internal antennas keep the housing smooth with nothing sticking out.

Who this range extender is for

Flats and houses where the router sits at one end and the bedroom or home office at the other; people who do not want to replace the whole network but need to fix one weak spot; and households that already own Wi-Fi 6 devices. The RJ-45 port also allows a wired connection when needed.

Questions & answers

Does the extender work with older devices?

Yes. On 5 GHz the RE600X supports 802.11a/n/ac/ax and on 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n/ax, so devices from earlier Wi-Fi generations connect too.

Which band should I use?

5 GHz is faster at shorter distances, while 2.4 GHz passes through walls better and reaches further. The extender works on both, so each device can use the one that suits it.

How large an area does the RE600X cover?

The manufacturer does not specify a range. Results depend on where the router is, the walls and where the extender is placed.
