What the Nordic layout is

Nordic is a single key set serving Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden at once. The shape is the same ISO as an Estonian board – a tall Enter and an extra key beside the left Shift – but Å sits next to Enter and Ä and Ö come in a different order. There is no Õ printed on any cap. This is the layout that reaches the Baltics most often, which is why the choice here is wider than with Estonian engraving.

Nordic or Estonian engraving

The choice is simple: if you look at the keys while typing, take the Estonian layout. If you touch-type, or you want a mechanical gaming board, Nordic serves just as well – the layout is changed by the system, not by the keyboard.

Frequently asked questions

Can I write Estonian on a Nordic keyboard? Yes. Switch the Estonian layout on in your system and every accented letter lands correctly; the legends simply will not match all of them.

Where is Õ? On an Estonian board it sits next to Enter; a Nordic key set puts Å there.

Are there mechanical boards with a Nordic layout? There are: the Razer Ornata V3 and Ornata V3 X, the Corsair K65 Plus Wireless and the Keychron Q1 Max.
