A screen replacement costs many times more than a screen protector, and scratches on the body take more off the resale price than a case ever cost. For a tablet, a cover also adds a stand and magnetic sleep/wake.

How to choose

Always buy for the EXACT model — sizes differ within a series and Pro versions move the camera cut-out. For drop protection look for a rating (MIL-STD-810 or similar) and raised lips around the screen. On glass, look for 9H hardness and an oleophobic coating; curved screens hold a full-adhesive protector better.

FAQ

Does a case block wireless charging? Plastic or silicone up to about 3 mm does not; a metal plate stuck on for a magnetic car mount does.

Glass or film? Glass is stiffer and breaks instead of the screen; film follows curved edges better and costs less.
